Matric Results 2009

Since they started writing the matriculation examinations set by the Western Cape Education Department in the early nineteen nineties (when the Joint Matriculation Board ceased to exist), Constantia Waldorf pupils have maintained a 100% pass rate. Of the 24 candidates writing this year 23 obtained a Bachelors Pass and one a Diploma Pass. Two candidates, Tara Weber and Janet Swart, had overall average of more than 80% and a further 14 candidates averaged over 70%. The overall average for the School was 70% and in individual subjects, there were 40 subject distinctions (Level 7   80-100%)
The following table gives a detailed analysis of the results showing the number of subject distinctions, the subject average and the last column gives the % above the WCED average for that paper.

Matric Results for 2008

As they have done for over 10 years all of the Constantia Waldorf pupils passed the National Senior Certificate examination. Since this was the first year in which the new OBE curriculum was examined, it is difficult to give an accurate comparison with previous years.
The major differences between this system and the old system are as follows:

  • An aggregate mark or average percentage is no longer used for assessment purposes. (To obtain the old “A” aggregate pupils had to obtain more than 1680 marks. When expressed as an average percentage this could be as low as 70% . If all subjects were taken on the H.G./400  the total would be out of 2400 but in fact for assessment purposes the aggregate mark was taken out of 2100 giving an inflated percentage.) The figures we have included are the actual average percentages and although these are not used for assessment, they do give an indication of the overall ability of the pupils.
  • Instead of using A, B, C etc to show the level attained in individual subjects, the following table is used:
Achievement code Achievement Description Percentage
7 Outstanding Achievement 80 - 100
6 Meritorious Achievement 70 - 79
5 Substantial Achievement 60 - 69
4 Adequate Achievement 50 - 59
3 Moderate Achievement 40 - 49
2 Elementary Achievement 30 - 39
1 Not achieved 0 - 29

A subject distinction is therefore a level 7.

  • The overall assessment of S (Senior Certificate) and M (University Pass) have been replaced by 4 categories.

    1. pass
    2. pass (Higher) could admit to a Certificate course in higher education.
    3. pass (Diploma) could admit to a Diploma course in higher education.
    4. pass (Bachelors) could admit to a bachelor’s degree in higher education

Overall:
Of our 28 candidates, 26 obtained Bachelor passes (93%) and 2 obtained Diploma passes (7%). Three pupils( Louisa Feiter, Shan Weeber and Monique Woolls-King) all averaged over 80%. In fact the overall average for the whole School was 70,2%.

Individual:
Five pupils, Emil Bruwer(4), Louisa Feiter(7), Tarn Levy-Phillipp(4), Shan Weeber(6) and Monique Woolls-King(4) all obtained 4 or more subject distinctions.

Of all of the subjects written, 41 out of a total of 197 (21%) resulted in distinctions in the following subjects: English(3), Afrikaans(2), Mathematics(6), Physical Science(1), Biology(2), History(1), Geography(5), Art(1), Design(4), Drama(7), Life Orientation(8) and German(1).
We have good reason to be proud of our Matrics and their teachers.
